What Is Included In A Private Early Pregnancy Scan?
When you book a private early pregnancy scan with Peek A Baby, you can expect the following information during your scan:
- Abdominal ultrasound scan to confirm your viable pregnancy.
- Hear your baby’s heartbeat for the first time.
- Confirmation of gestational age and estimated expected due date.
Please note: If we are unable to detect pregnancy transabdominally, we will seek permission to perform a transvaginal ultrasound scan.
Following your scan with one of our trained, professional sonographers, you will be given 3 black and white thermal prints to take home as a keepsake of your private early pregnancy scan. You will also be given a report that can be discussed further with GP or midwife if required.
Please note we do not need to see any hospital records for this scan.
Should you arrive with us, and your baby is in the wrong position, one free re-scan will be booked for you at a time that suits you.
You are able to bring guests with you to your scan; however, we ask that you call the clinic beforehand to confirm how many you can bring on the day. If you have children, they can also join your appointment, meeting their sibling for the first time too!

Preparing For Your Private Early Pregnancy Scan
There is not much preparation for a private early pregnancy scan. This early pregnancy scan does require a full bladder. We recommend that you drink clear fluids 30-45 minutes before your appointment. We also ask that you wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of access to your abdominal region for scanning.
If possible, please have to hand your pregnancy dates if known to aid our sonographers.

Our sonographers are all registered professionals with The Society of Radiographers and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Midwives or nurses in clinic are all registered with their associate regulatory body, often the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). They comply with strict guidelines for ultrasound scans, including ALARA (as low as reasonably possible) guidelines to minimise ultrasound exposure. Ultrasound scans do no emit radiation and are completely safe for mother and baby throughout pregnancy.
