Private Anomaly Scans
One of our popular baby scans, the anomaly scan is a detailed ultrasound scan that can be performed between 18 and 21 weeks of pregnancy. It is also known as a mid-pregnancy scan or 20-week scan, and it provides a complete check-up on the baby’s development.
While other baby scans are to confirm pregnancy, check the baby’s gender or simply see the baby’s features in the 4D scan, the 20-week scan checks for abnormalities in the brain, spine, heart, abdomen, and more!
Importance of the Anomaly Scans
The anomaly scan, which is usually performed between 18 and 21 weeks of pregnancy, is one crucial milestone for all parents during prenatal care. This is because the anomaly scan offers a comprehensive assessment of the baby’s development and therefore plays a pivotal role.
The mid-pregnancy scan can also offer parents peace of mind with early detection of possible concerns that may arise, allowing time for intervention when needed and increasing the chances of positive outcomes. With experienced sonographers, Peek-a-Baby can help you understand more about your baby’s health and provide expert information.
Anomaly Scans Common Questions
The main purpose of the anomaly scan is the check on the baby’s development and if any potential abnormalities. It is an important step of the prenatal care.
The mid-pregnancy scan can be performed between 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy. This is because in between these weeks, the baby has developed enough for detailed examination, but the sonographer will still be able to see features that will no longer be possible to check later on because of the development of deeper tissues and other baby’s features.
During the anomaly scan the sonographers will examine your baby’s health and check for any abnormalities with the ultrasound. Some of the checks may include the baby’s brain, face, stomach, spinal cord, arms and legs, as well as the placenta and amniotic fluid levels.
If our sonographer identifies any abnormality during the mid-pregnancy scan, you may need to seek immediate medical attention from your GP and midwife. The NHS may confirm the findings of our scan and offer further diagnostic tests if needed, as well as provide suitable medical care and support.
All ultrasound scans performed by Peek-a-Baby are considered safe, including our anomaly scan. If you have any further questions about health and safety, or if you have any health conditions that you are worried about curing the baby scan, please contact us.
