Veracity

Veracity is a new generation non invasive prenatal test. Prenatal testing allows pregnant women to check for genetic conditions of the fetus before they give birth. These tests can be performed without gender if necessary.

There are different types of prenatal tests available during the first trimester; however these can give a lower accuracy in results. They can also include invasive procedures with 1 in 200 chance of miscarriage.

Veracity is a highly accurate, non invasive DNA prenatal test that gives 99.9% accuracy and has no risk of miscarriage from invasive procedures.

What Does Veracity Test For?

Veracity offers three levels of testing, with each level testing for different genetic conditions. It is designed to test for the most common fetal aneuploidies (conditions) that occur when there is an abnormal number of chromosomes.

Autosomal Aneuploidies:

  • Down syndrome (Trisomy 21)
  • Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18)
  • Patau syndrome (Trisomy 13)

Sex Chromosome Aneuploidies:

  • Turner syndrome (Monosomy X)
  • Triple X syndrome (Trisomy X)
  • Klinefelter sundrome (XXY)
  • Jacobs sundrome (XYY)
  • XXYY syndrome

Microdeletions:

  • DiGeorge syndrome (22q11.2)
  • 1p36 dleetion syndrome (1p36)
  • Smith-Magenis syndrome (17p11.2)
  • Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (4p16.3)

Gender can also be determined as an option from these tests.

How Does The Test Work?

Veracity tests are done via a small blood sample from the mother. The fetal DNA is then tested directly, providing the highest accuracy in detection. It is completely safe for the baby and mother with no associated risks of miscarriage.

How can you be certain it is the baby's DNA?

During pregnancy, fetal DNA travels from the placenta to the mother's blood stream and circulates with her DNA. The Veracity testing process can accurately measure the fetal free-cell DNA in the mother's blood once it has been isolated correctly.

Who can take the test and when?

You can take a Veracity test from 10 weeks of pregnancy, obtaining results within 7-10 working days (subject to postal delays). There is no age limit on this test; if you want to take the test, you can book with Peek A Baby who will then take a sample of your blood . This is sent off for processing and analysis before sending your results.

With a wide range of conditions to test for, Veracity offers three possible options for you. All options are available from Peek A Baby, giving you the choice regarding your health insights and that of your baby.

Autosomal Aneuploidies refers to fetal abnormalities that do not involve the sex chromosomes.

Veracity tests for autosomal aneuploidies including Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome. These genetic conditions are caused by having an extra copy of a chromosome in some or all cells of the body.

Sex chromosome aneuploidies is a relatively common group of genetic disorders that are characterised by either loss or gain of one or more sex chromosome.

Veracity is a completely safe way of testing fetal DNA for these genetic conditions.

Microdeletions are genetic conditions that have been caused by the loss of a part of a chromosome. Usually, microdeletions are characterised by intellectual impairment or congenital abnormalities with the severity of the symptoms being dependent on the size and location of microdeletion.

Veracity tests for microdeletions as part of the highest level of testing.
